Lewis Rodman Wanamaker was instrumental in establishing the first professional golf association to be established in the U.S. He donated a trophy at the 1916 inaugural PGA Championship, held in Bronxville (New York), just north of New York City.
This trophy is the Wanamaker Trophy and it’s one of the biggest trophies for professional sports. The trophy is awarded to the winner each year of the PGA Championship. The winner gets a replica for a year while the original is displayed in Frisco, Texas, the new home of PGA of America.
