The PGA Tour will be visiting the easternmost tip of the North Atlantic Ocean, the Bermuda Triangle. This is a famous place for mysterious disappearances of planes, boats and people. This week, at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship it’s where many veterans are finding their games.
Noren was the most impressive, as he made 11 birdies, a tournament record, in calm conditions on Thursday morning, at Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, Bermuda. Noren’s 10-under-61 tied the course record and was his lowest 18-hole score in 510 official stroke play rounds on Tour.
Noren stated, “I feel great because it’s been a while since I played a low round. I think I was lower than 5, 6 under. “That’s the closest I have come to the hole for a long, long time.”
He finished the day with a bang by putting his approach in his foot to make his third birdie on his final four golf holes. Noren hopes the wind will continue to blow at Port Royal as the tournament progresses.
Noren replied, “I love the wind.” If it isn’t windy, you have to maintain these low rounds and it is not easy.
Noren, 41, has had a tough season. He won 10 times on the DP World Tour, and was once ranked No. He is ranked No. 8 in the World but has never won on the PGA Tour in 162 starts. He has dropped to 62 and in world rankings this year, with just three top-10 finishes.
He said that it’s been an odd year, but is on the right track after his T-3 finish at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Robert Garrigus, on the other hand, has had an absolutely terrible year. He has missed the cut on all eight of his PGA Tour appearances this season, and 15 times in a row overall. On Thursday, he shot a bogey free 8-under-63.
He said, “My putting was as good as the best I have putted for, I don’t remember, five years.”
Garrigus, 45 was an addition to the tournament. He flew to Bermuda thinking he would enjoy a holiday if he didn’t get a place.
He said, “Just knowing I was going to play in a tournament gave me some juice.” “I came out today to have fun and shake off the rust. I think I succeeded.” It was great fun.”
He is tied with Dylan Wu and Vincent Whaley who both scored 63 in the first group and predicted that the scores would be low throughout the day. Whaley, 28 ranked No. Whaley, 28, ranked No. He claimed to be finally healthy. This, along with a change in coaching to Cameron McCormick just before the FedEx Cup Fall started, has helped him make it through four consecutive cuts.
Whaley: “I used to work with him when I was a kid in Dallas. It’s great that I got back into the business.”
On Thursday, a Tour record was set. Adam Long , an experienced pro, hit his 60th consecutive fairway on the second hole of his par-5 after hitting 56 out of 56 fairways last week at World Wide Technology Championship. He broke Brian Claar’s 1992 record for 59 straight fairways. Long’s streak began with his final two holes of the Shriners Children’s Open. It ended when he shot 69.
“The one I missed, yes, it was the 3-wood which I hit a little too high in the air and the wind caught me. “It didn’t go far enough, so it ended up in the rough,” Long explained. “Made the Thursday a bit more exciting than normal.”
