Jon Rahm joined LIV Golf on Thursday. The PGA Tour suspended him officially on Monday. He will not be able to defend his title in the Sentry, as well as at two other Tour events, including the first of the year.
The Tour alerted players to the decision, which was not surprising, “due his association with several unauthorized tournaments.”
Rahm has been removed from the FedEx Cup Standings after he played in his final PGA Tour Event, the 2023 Tour Championship, at East Lake.
Three men’s massive improvements in status 2024 is one man’s golf league change.
Doug Ferguson, golf writer for the Associated Press, pointed out that Mackenzie Hughes has just received a gold card into each of next year’s signature events, Alex Smalley will be in two of them, and Carl Yuan will get his card.
Rahm’s suspension by the PGA is a mere formality. Mac Hughes is now ranked No. Alex Smalley gets to start at Pebble and Riv, and Carl Yuan gets a full-card. All gain one place in FedEx Cup

Rahm’s decision was obvious for several weeks, as he pulled out of the TGL (the new tech-infused golf league led by Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy) before it was announced that the league would be postponed to 2025. The PGA Tour American Express, which he is the defending champ of, will not have him in the field.
