Sophie Linder checked off a lot of items during her stellar career at Gordonsville High School located about an hour to the east of Nashville.
Linder ended her high school career last October in dramatic style by winning her 4th consecutive state championship in a playoff.
She is the fourth Tennessee high-school girls golfer who has won four state titles. The others are Greeneville’s Karen Socha, St. Agnes Rachel Heck, and Baylor’s Brooke Pancake.
Linder has been recognized as the winner of 2022-23 High School Sports Awards for Girls Golfer of Year by USA Today.
The USA Today High School Sports Awards are the nation’s largest athletic recognition program for high schools. There are 14 regional award shows, and one national award program. Linder won the award from a group of 25 nominees selected from all 50 US states and DC.
Linder, a native of Carthage in Tennessee, has joined the Ole Miss Golf team and will begin the season as No. 23 overall recruit for the class of 2023. She enters the season as the No. Tennessee is the No. 1 recruiting state. She was also selected for the Middle Tennessee Girls Junior Player and 2021 Tennessee Girls Junior Players of the year.
Linder’s successful high-school career was complemented by her amateur career that included notable wins at events such as the 2021 Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open, and the 2021 Tennessee Girls’ Junior Championship. Recently, she finished third at the 2022 Tennessee Women’s Amateur Championship.
