The busy four-month stretch at Tiburon Golf Club, Naples, Florida is underway.
Greg Norman designed the course, which hosted last month’s LPGA’s CME Group Tour Championship. It hosts this week’s QBE Shootout. This is an unofficial event on PGA Tour schedule. Twelve teams of two golfers will compete in the tournament, which features 54 holes played in a scramble format, modified alternate shot, and four-ball format. The CME, and the QBE are played at Tiburon’s golf course.
Tiburon will host PGA Tour Champions with Chubb Classic in February. It will be held on the Black Course.
Tiburon is home to the only LPGA, PGA Tour Champions, and PGA Tour sanctioned tournaments.
In a press release, Kevin DeDonato, Tiburon’s general manager, stated that the team was honored to have three professional events hosted in such a short time. “As we recover from Hurricane Ian, our market is showing its resilience in pushing forward. We are grateful to all our partners for their support and look forward to three great events.
Lydia Ko was awarded the CME Group Tour Championship. She was also awarded the Vare Trophy, for the lowest scoring average, and the Rolex Player Award.
The QBE Shootout starts Friday with the scramble. Saturday’s alternate shot is Sunday’s four-ball. Along with 22 men’s pros, two LPGA stars, Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda, are present in the field.
In 2023, the 36th anniversary of the Chubb Classic will be celebrated. This year’s event will take place at Tiburon for the third consecutive year. Bernhard Langer will be returning to defend his 2022 title, against many of the game’s most prominent names such as Ernie Els and Jim Furyk.
