Tiger Woods explains his surprise and frustration at the framework agreement between PGA Tour and Public Investment Fund

Nov, 2023

Tiger Woods, who has not competed since withdrawing from The Masters in the spring, was questioned about his health and the future of professional Golf at the 2023 Hero World Challenge Press Conference.

The 15-time major winner spoke out about the shocking framework agreement that was announced on June 6, between the PGA Tour, Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, and the PGA Tour.

Woods said that his reaction was one of surprise, as I am sure many players were. It happened so quickly, without input, or any information, and was just thrown at them. Woods said that the players were upset by what had happened. “We took steps to ensure that player involvement was maintained… We were not going be left out like we were.”

Woods joined the PGA Tour Policy Board in the past and has expressed his satisfaction with the Tour’s direction and the way the process has developed. It’s not all roses behind the scenes, despite the progress. The 47-year old explained why he is “frustrated” by the lack of progress in bringing about the governance changes that he wants to see, especially as the deadline for reaching a deal with the PIF on Dec. 31 approaches. The PIF may not be the only option available for the Tour.

“I believe all parties are in communication and we are aggressively trying to reach a deal… We have several options.” Woods added, “But we’d still like to see a deal by December 31.” “And this is what the agreement stated and all parties are aware of that.” There are also other options.”

Woods expressed his confidence that a deal will be reached, whether it is by the deadline of Dec. 31, or even later. Woods was constantly pointing out that there are many options for the Tour, and the board is trying to find the best possible deal for everyone involved.

Only 33 days remain until the end of the year deadline. Tick-tock.
