NAPLES (Florida) — It’s safe for us to say that Nelly Korda made an impression Friday at Tiburon golf club.
The QBE Shootout features Lexi Thompson (the first female participant in the event’s history) and Korda (the second). Thompson has previously played, but Korda will be making an appearance playing alongside Denny McCarthy.
They were playing alongside Max Homa, Kevin Kisner and Kevin Kisner in Friday’s first round . This was a scramble format. At 12 under, McCarthy and Korda are tied for fourth going into Saturday’s modified alternative shot portion.
Homa and Kisner are tied for second at 14-under. They were both asked about Korda’s first appearance. Both players were full of praise and said they spoke about Korda all day.
This is a great exchange between Homa (and Kisner) about Korda.
Kisner: “I believe I once called her the Tiger Woods for the LPGA Tour.” After seven to eight holes, I said that she has hit every shot exactly as she wants for eight holes. Is she able to hit a bad shot? I don’t know, I have never seen her hit such a poor shot. We laughed all day.”
Homa: It was a little too outrageous
Kisner: She drove it down the middle.
Homa: She drove it down the middle of every hole, almost hitting the pin three times. On one par 4, she hit it about two inches, then she hit it from way too far the next.
Kisner: “Twenty-footer.”
Homa: “And Chipped It Great, so I don’t know how she doesn’t win every week. This is a testament to the other ladies that anyone can even sniff beating Homa because it was so impressive.
Kisner: I asked her if she won every tournament.
Homa: She said no
Kisner: She said no. I’m like, “I don’t believe that.” ‘”
Homa: “Up for debate. She claimed Lydia has them all. They would be a good team.
