With the addition of the “60A” wedge, the Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks lineup now offers a wider range of grind options.
Vokey previously offered seven main options to players who had different needs.
- T Grinder: Widest sole option with low bounce, widely used on the PGA Tour.
- L Grind: The lowest-bouncing option with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief, for maximum versatility
- F grind: A general-purpose grind, best used for full wedge shots with a squared face.
- S grind: This neutral grind is best for full shots with a square-faced face.
- M Grind – An all-purpose grind for players who wish to open or close their face for different shots
- D grind: For players who have a steeper swing angle but still want to be able to play from different club orientations.
- K-Grind: Highest-bounce option with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief.
Titleist now offers the “A” grind. This is a technique that has been used by many golfers on the PGA Tour. These include Tom Kim who has won three times using the A-grind. Wyndham Clark who has won the U.S. Open with an Agrind.
Titleist says the Vokey WedgeWorks 60A is a low bounce option for golfers who have a shallow angle and play in firmer conditions. The sole is “smoothed out” for a quicker feel through the grass, which helps some golfers slide easier under the ball at impact.
According to a Titleist release, Clark stated that this A grind is the most important club in his bag. “I use the SM9 A 60-degree grind which is a very versatile low bounce 60. I can hit my shot on any lie, whether it’s tight, rough, wet, or firm.
Geoff Ogilvy is said to have played a major role in the A-grind’s creation.
Aaron Dill of Vokey Tour, a Vokey Tour representative, said in a release that he spoke to Geoff Ogilvy about Australian golf courses, comparing them with courses in America and other parts of the world. I asked him specific questions and he came up with the idea of designing a lob wedge grind that would complement the links-style conditions players face, not only in Australia and Europe but worldwide. Geoff is a low-bounce player with his 60-degree wedge, so I removed the ribbon from his 60.04L and created a grind which moves quickly through the turf without much resistance.
The new Vokey Agrind will be sold for $225 per piece on November 7. Custom options include up to six toe engravings, 10-15 character stamping options, the Flight Line alignment feature option, and custom shafts/grips/ferrules are available.
