The skinny: Like the T100 irons but with a muscle channel bar filled with polymer and lofts 2 degrees higher than those of the T100*S, Titleist focused their efforts on improving the sound and feel.

The Deep DiveFor a ten-year period, golfers played Titleist’s AP Irons. Jordan Spieth was a fan of the AP2, the iron that Spieth chose. Some of these golfers switched to the T100 irons and others found that the T100*S was a more lofted version of the T100. For AP2 fans, however, the T200 is simply too large.

Titleist’s new T150 irons replace the T100*S and offer golfers the same feel, control, and look they enjoy, with the added benefit of a little extra distance.

The T150 is built the same as the T100, except that the T150’s blade is longer and its topline is thicker. To see the differences, you need to compare the two clubs side by side.

The back of both clubs is made from 17-4 stainless steel with a SUP-10 stainless steel body and face. Titelist added two tungsten weights to the T150’s capsule. One in the heel, and one in the toe. This helps to improve stability and prevent the T150 from twisting when the ball is hit off-center.

The T150 irons have lofts which are 2 degrees higher than the T100. However, the main difference between these two irons is that the T150 has a muscle channel that runs from the toe of the club to the heel. The T150 is filled with silicone-like polymer which absorbs some vibrations at impact. This encourages a higher launch. The hitting area will also flex better. This feature was also present in the last version of T100*S, but it is now located closer to the striking area.

Titleist also made the lower part of the face slightly thicker. Thin faces are often promoted by brands to increase ball speed when golfers mishit the ball. However, thicker faces create a more pleasing sound and sensation at impact. Every club designer has to contend with this paradox. Titleist’s goal was to alter the vibrations at impact and the frequency created by thickening the lower portion of the hitting zone.

Titleist says that by moving the polymer bar forward and making the lower part thicker of the hitting area, the T150 can have the same sound and feel as the T100 while still maintaining the T100*S ball speed.

Titleist has designed the T150 to have a trailing edge with a greater bend upward than the T100*S. The clubs should be able to get into and out of the grass more efficiently. This will allow golfers to maintain speed during the swing.

They look the same and cost the same. Titleist designed them this way to allow players to work with a fitter for a customized set.
