The Deep Dive Unlike the T300’s previous version, which was a cast one-piece with a large under-cut, the T350 of 2023, which replaces it, is a multimaterial, forged hollow body design. It’s built just like the T200, but larger. This magnifies its playing characteristics.
The T350 features a stainless steel face made of SUP-10 that has been forged into an L shape and is wrapped under the leading edge. The lower part of the hitting surface can flex easier, especially when the shot is thin. Titleist designed the entire area of the hitting zone to become thinner towards the perimeter, to increase the sweet spot while protecting ball speed on mishits.
The T350’s body and chassis are made of 17-4 stainless steel. This material is stronger but lighter than SUP-10 steel which was used for the striking area.
Titleist’s T350 irons have a Max Impact System built in. The previous T300 had it on the back. The designers added a piece of polymer and attached it to the metal bar connecting the topline and bottom. The ball’s face presses against the polymer and flexes when it is struck. This acts as a spring, snapping the striking area into shape quicker than would be possible by itself. Golfers should be able to achieve higher ball speeds, and increase distance. The system was updated in the T350 by placing it closer to the center of face and making the polymer piece smaller.
The bar of the Max Impact System serves two purposes. The bar holds the polymer, and stiffens the club head when it hits. Titleist has added mass to the low-tow area of the T350 irons and redesigned a polymer plate covering the back and hollow chamber. It is no longer flat but has a waffle-like pattern on its inner-facing surface. These elements stiffen up the T200 at impact, and allow engineers to tweak the club’s sound without losing speed or distance.
Titleist added tungsten in the toe and heel areas of the T350 to increase its moment of inertia. This helps the T350 to resist twisting when hitting off-center. The amount of tungsten in each club varies, but on average it is about 80 grams.
The T350 features the largest sole and thickest topline of the updated T Series. Golfers who shoot consistently in the 80s, 90s, and above 100 find thicker toplines more reassuring. The leading edge is also curved upwards, which will help the club to work more efficiently through the turf, especially for those players with steep angles of attack.
The T350 irons look better when the Max Impact System is moved inside the head. With the help of a custom fitter, golfers should be able create combo sets or blended sets using T200 irons.
