After shooting rounds of 66 and 70, he finished one shot behind Morrison for a total of 7 under 136 over the two days. Gregory, who is set to begin his freshman year at Liberty University this fall, plays in his third consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur. It is his first match.
“There’s always a chance,” Gregory said about the match-play. Let the other player make the mistakes, and keep the ball on the fairway. Do not show emotion. “Make pars all day long and when the birdies come they will come.”
The final match-play spots were determined on Wednesday morning by a 14-7 playoff. The Round of 64 then began.
The 36-hole championship match will be played on Saturday.
