All professional golf victories are not equal.
Tony Finau claimed his sixth PGA Tour victory on Sunday at Vidanta, claiming 2023 Mexico Open. He won against a field that was mostly watered down, but he also beat the world no. The defending champion, Jon Rahm came in second.
Talor Gooch, who lives in the United States, won the LIV Golf League twice in a row.
Finau climbed five places to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, which was updated on Monday. Gooch fell a place to No. 11, while Finau climbed five spots. 60.
LIV golf league events do not award world ranking points to golfers. The application of the league to receive OWGR is currently being reviewed.
Gooch finished 2022 as the 40th-ranked player. He has won twice in 2023, and in each of his five starts he finished 18th or higher in the 48-man field on LIV.
Finau’s stats since the beginning of 2023 include 11 starts, eleven made cuts, a win, three top-10s, and eight top-20s.
Gooch recently learned that he was not exempt from the U.S. Open scheduled for June.
