The PGA Tour now offers more to players who are in the top 50 of FedEx Cup Standings than just a place on the field for the BMW Championship.
Earlier this summer, the PGA Tour board ratified a change to the Tour’s schedule for 2024 that will result in reduced fields at new designated events with purses of up to $20,000,000. The fields in the designated events will be between 70 and 80 players, and will largely consist of the top 50 players that qualified for the BMW Championship at the FedEx Cup Playoffs the previous year. This new approach is expected to add some much-needed intrigue to this season-long race.
Here’s an update on some of the players currently enrolled in and out of the designated events for next year.

The biggest movers
Denny McCarthy, despite losing in the Memorial playoff to Viktor Hovland, was the biggest mover this week, moving up 21 places to No. The 26th spot is a way to get a bit of breathing room before the top-50 cutoff. Hovland moved up to fourth place after his fourth Tour win.
The top 30 golfers are starting to separate themselves and ensure their safety.
