With a win of 4 and 2 over Reid Davenport by freshman Christiaan Maas, the Longhorns’ first point was secured. The match quickly became a battle for control as the middle of Vanderbilt’s strong lineup took the lead. Matthew Riedel and William Moll, along with Cole Sherwood, rolled to easy 5 or 4 wins. This rendered the marquis anchor match between Travis Vick of Texas and Vandy’s Gordon Sargent moot.

Scott Limbaugh, Vanderbilt’s head coach, said that he was proud of his team’s performance today. “We spoke last night about being excited for play and taking pride in our performances. Every day that you have the chance to play is an opportunity for learning and growth. Each man did a fantastic job of locking in the game from the beginning. Matthew and William got our first points. Cole and Gordon played great on the back.

The Sun Devils’ retooled team, which included four players from last season’s national final at Grayhawk lost to Pepperdine. They won 3 and 2 to move on to the title match.

With a win of 4 and 3 over Ian Maspat, Luke Potter, a freshman, got the Sun Devils moving. Preston Summerhays defeated Pepperdine’s Sam Choi 1 to 1, with a birdie of 18 to give Sun Devils a 2-0 advantage.

Hailee Cooper’s 18th hole walk-off eagle against Emilie Paltrinieri at UCLA sent her third-ranked (Golfweek/Sagarin), Texas A&M to Wednesday’s championship against Auburn. Oregon was stunned by Casey Weidenfeld’s stunning comeback.

Texas A&M was up against UCLA, which struggled to finish at 18 over in stroke play to be the fourth seed.

After East Lake Cup medalist Blanca Fernandez Garcia Poggio and Zoe Slaughter won their matches with ease, Zoe Campos, Caroline Canales and Cooper left the decision to Paltrinieri.

They were never separated more than one hole, and the match was tied heading into the par-5 18.

Cooper’s second shot was left in front of the green by a fortunate bounce. This set up Cooper’s chip shot, which ran the length of green and trickled into the hole. The Tigers will be playing Wednesday’s title match.

Gerrod Chadwell, Texas A&M’s head coach, said that Hailee’s match was “back and forth all day.” After going all square on 17, she stepped up to hit a great shot down 18 from the tee. Her eagle shot at 18 was amazing. It was clear that UCLA would hit the par putt. The match ended with dramatic and exciting fireworks.

Golf Channel will broadcast the East Lake Cup championship match live on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
