Steve Stricker, PGA Tour golfer, renovated the former Cherokee Country Club, located in Madison, Wisconsin. The club reopened today to its members as TPC Wisconsin. The grand opening date will be announced at a later time.
PGA Tour Design Services assisted Stricker in his renovation. Stricker is a Madison resident. As part of the licensing agreement signed in 2022 with Cherokee Park Inc., the private club will become the 30 th TPC Network property.
The course was rerouted in large parts, regrassed and a new irrigation was installed. TPC Wisconsin is the new home of the American Family Insurance Championship, a PGA Tour Champions event that will begin in 2025.
The club’s learning center has been upgraded with a new hitting structure indoors for club and putting fitting, Trackman technology and indoor putting facilities, as well as an outdoor short game area. It was renamed the Steve & Nicki Stricker American Family Insurance Teaching Center. The clubhouse has also been extensively renovated.
Steve Stricker stated in a press release to announce the opening that he had lived on the course for years, since it was Cherokee Country Club. “This is home. It is a great honor to be able to use my PGA Tour experience in its re-envisioning. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with PGA Tour Design Services on this project. TPC Wisconsin is going to play according to PGA Tour standards. The course will be a good test for all players, and it is going to be an exceptional event.”
The renovation included the restoration of 35 acres of degraded wetland that is connected to Cherokee Marsh.
In a media release, Wisconsin golf legend Dennis Tiziani (owner and president of TPC Wisconsin and Steve Stricker’s father-in law) said, “The redesign has gone extremely well. We’ve raised the fairways by two to four foot to ensure drainage and play surface perfection.” The work done on the property between 2021-2023 has been an engineering miracle and an eco-miracle.
“I have been playing golf for many years, and I can assure you that the course we created will not only be challenging, but memorable. The players will remember each hole, not just two or even three signature holes as on some courses. TPC Wisconsin is a great place to improve your golf game because I am passionate about teaching.
