Two LIV Golf deals end teammate rivalry between Brooke Koepka and Matthew Wolff

Dec, 2023

If Brooks Koepka’s relationship with Matthew Wolff, former LIV Golf teammates, was a marriage they had been separated for months and a divorce is in the works. The Smash GC split became official on Thursday morning.

Koepka also traded Harold Varner III to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC in exchange for Peter Uihlein. Watson traded Harold Varner III for Peter Uihlein to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces Golf Club. The RangeGoats have traded their two top players from the last season who were ranked first (Gooch), and seventh (Varner), in the standings for the entire season. Uihlein finished 12th, and Wolff was 27th.

The 4Aces will be a favorite in 2024 after Johnson, Varner, and Patrick Reed are signed. Koepka’s and Gooch’s Smash duo might be the best of the league. Jason Kokrak, a solid third player on the team, is still needed to fill the spot left vacant by Chase Koepka’s relegation. Watson had traded his two best players to the RangeGoats, who were among four teams that would return their entire team for 2024. On paper, Watson, Uihlein and Wolff with Thomas Pieters would be a step down.

This week marks the start of the first LIV Golf Promotions, which takes place Dec. 8-10 in Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The top three players will earn a spot on a team to play the 2024 season.
