Tyson Shelley ties course record, captures 56th Pacific Coast Amateur in playoff

Tyson Shelley won’t forget this round.

He shot an 8-under-62 at Capilano Golf and Country Club, Canada. This tied a course record for a competitive golf course. He won the 56th Pacific Coast Amateur in a playoff on Friday.

Shelley won the playoff after Jack Buchanan and Shelley both made par on the hole. Buchanan, however, missed the green on the second par-5 hole and scrambled to get par, while Shelley was able to find the putting surface with two shots, and she got the birdie.

Shelley, told Amateur Golf that “everything just clicked” when she was on the course. “I was confident that I could hit the fairways off the tee and I was able execute this.” My putter was dialed in this week once I had the ball into play. I was able hit some great putts and was lucky enough to have a few long putts fall.

After four rounds of strokeplay, the duo were tied at 13-under.

Shelley said to Amateur Golf , “It’s a big deal for me and my self-confidence.” “Especially this final round. I realized that a tournament doesn’t end until the final round. “I think that this victory has given me a lot of confidence, and I can compete at high levels anywhere.”

Chuan-Tai Lin finished in T-3 with Neal Shipley, Jeffrey Guan and all three of them at 11 under.

The Pacific Coast Amateur will be the sixth of seven events in the 2023 Elite Amateur Series. The player with the most points at the end of seven events wins a PGA Tour exempt, which will be announced soon. They also get an exemption for the 2023 U.S. Open. The winner will receive a PGA Tour exemption, which will be announced soon, and a 2023 U.S. Open exemption. Nick Dunlap of Alabama led Vanderbilt’s Jackson Van Paris by seven points after five events.

The 121st Western Amateur is the final event in the Elite Amateur Series. It will be held at North Shore Country Club, Glenview, Illinois, from July 31 to August 5.
