Tiger Woods, the man that still moves the golf needle above every other player, is just a regular guy.
Sure, he has 15 major titles, won the 2000 U.S Open by 15 strokes and the 2008 version playing on one leg, was undisputed world number one for 11 out of 12 years from 1998 and has won tournaments after knee surgery but, hey, they guy takes Uber cabs.
Recently, golf podcast The Par Train told the tale of his own cabbie and his famous passenger.
The tweet tells the tale in full:
“He takes Ubers?!” I asked.
Yep and he isn’t “Tiger” in the Uber app. He’s just “T”.
Apparently Tiger likes Uber so he doesn’t have to be bothered with arranging a car service.
“Did he talk?” I asked

They talked the whole ride.
The driver asked what it’s like being Tiger Woods. He talked about the pressure, living up to his younger self. He talked the most about Charlie and his love for the game being strong as ever.

Tiger Woods. Solid tipper, loves golf as much as ever, just a proud dad and takes Ubers (thank God).
One of us.

So after years of being accused of being a poor tipper, it’s not true after all?
Despite the recent injuries, Woods has been at pains to take part in the best tournaments he can, although 2022 saw him withdraw from the PGA Championship citing soreness. On either side, he finished 47th at The Masters and missed-the cut at the 150th Open at St. Andrews.
Since then he’s withdrawn from his own event, the Hero World Challenge, and looked in pain at the PNC Championship in December, sharing some hurt with son Charlie.
However, recent news has been upbeat with Tiger confirming his entry in next week’s Genesis Invitational, his first outing at Riviera since a 68th place finish in 2020.
I’m ready to play an ACTUAL PGA Tour event next week @thegenesisinv

Although we were also in that position in 2016, when the Woods team then confirmed entry before needing to withdraw, this time he looks certain to appear on the first tee on Thursday.
Arrival will probably not be via Uber.
