USGA announces five new titles for Maryland

The U.S. The Golf Association has made a big splash in the Old Line State.

The USGA announced on Tuesday that five championships will be held in Maryland. Three of them are at Woodmont Country Club, and two others are at Columbia Country Club.

In 2025 and 2026, the Adaptive Open, , which was first held in 2022, will be played at Woodmont, a golf club located in Rockville, approximately 20 miles north-east of Washington, D.C. The club was founded in 1913, and it moved to its present location in 1950. The club will also host the U.S. Open in 2028. Junior Amateur.

Columbia CC in Chevy Chase is located about seven miles north-east of Washington, D.C., and will host the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur 2027 and the U.S. Senior Amateur 2035.

The USGA will hold five events in Maryland over the next 11 years.

John Bodenhamer is the USGA’s chief championships officer. He said, “We are thrilled to be returning to Maryland. It’s not only home to historic golf courses, but also to fans who know USGA championships and are engaged.” We know Woodmont Country Club, Columbia Country Club, and the surrounding community will be fully engaged in hosting five championships.

Rose Zhang has won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Woodmont. She defeated Gabi Ruffels in 38 holes, the second longest match ever played at a championship.

The Adaptive open is the 15th USGA national championship.

Zhang became the eighth person to win both titles, Girls’ Junior as well as Women’s Amateur, after Columbia Country Club hosted the 2021 U.S. Girls’ Junior. Zhang is the only person to have won the Women’s Amateur before winning the Girls’ Junior.

In Maryland, 24 USGA championships have taken place.
