The 2024 Curtis Cup will be a great opportunity for the United States to show its experience as a leader.
The USGA announced Tuesday the four-time Women’s Mid-Am champion Meghan Strasi would be captain of the 2024 U.S. Curtis Cup Team. The biennial competition pits top female amateur golfers in the United States against those from Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I). It will take place at Sunningdale Golf Club, England.
John Bodenhamer (USGA chief championships officer) stated in a statement that Meghan is an outstanding amateur player of her generation and that her impact on women’s amateur golf is significant. “It was obvious to us that Meghan was going to be the captain of our USA team in 2024. We are thrilled that she agreed to do so.
Stasi was part of the 2008 Curtis Cup Team that won at St. Andrews. Stasi’s four U.S. Women’s Mid-Am titles tied for the most titles in the championship’s 35-year-old history. After winning back-to-back titles for 2006 and 2007, she won again in 2010 and 2012.
Stasi stated, “My 2008 experience with the Curtis Cup team has been incredibly meaningful and rewarding; it was an honor to be asked to take on the role of captain.” “I have had the chance to witness the matches in Wales and Merion the past two years, and I find the level of talent and poise among amateur golfers to be inspiring and enjoyable to be around. I cannot wait to start this journey, and most importantly, to be part of the USA team once again.”
Stasi was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). She was only 21 years old. She has won 17 FSGA titles to date, including two Florida Women’s Amateurs, and five Florida Women’s Mid-Amateurs. Stasi has been named the FSGA Player-of-the Year eight times.
For its third consecutive victory, the United States won the 2022 Curtis Cup held at Merion Golf Club. The overall series is 31-8-3 in favor of the USA.
