What would you do if the next morning you won the largest tournament of your life and received a $3.6 million payout?
Viktor Hovland , who won the PGA Tour 2023 Memorial Tournament in a play-off on Sunday at Muirfield Village Golf Club, had to get up early and start working. He didn’t tee up, but he caddied for his former Oklahoma State University roommate Zach Bauchou, who is competing in the U.S. Open Final Qualification at Columbus, Ohio.
There is no rest for the rich or the tired. Hovland met the first requirement for any caddie: he arrived. He was dressed in shorts, wearing his Ping hat and on the bag early.
No rest for champions

Hovland is, of course exempted from qualifying, and is already on the U.S. Open team at Los Angeles Country Club (15-18 June). Bauchou, an Oklahoma State second-team All-American, missed the cut at the Mexico Open. He has the No. On Monday, he’ll have the No. 5 golfer of the world at his side for 36 holes each day. The morning will be spent at The Lakes Golf & Country Club and the afternoon will be spent at Brookside Golf Club (at the 10th tee). Dionne Warwick sang, “Friends are what you need.”
Hovland, who deposited $3.6 million Sunday, will now be put to work. What about a small reward for your efforts?
