The WOODLANDS (Texas) — In an attempt to establish its identity in Texas’ heartland, the third round of Saturday’s Chevron Championship attracted a Texas icon and a golf enthusiast — former Longhorns legend Vince Young.

Young did a long segment with the local HBCU Prairie View A&M. The HBCU has been streaming live from the event inside the Inspiration dome all week, a golf-ball-like monster located just off The Club at Carlton Woods’ 18th green.

He told Golfweekthat he had been playing regularly over the last few years, and that he consistently broke 90 on a number courses in the Houston region.

Young, who plays the Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the property often, said: “I’m a regular here.” “I play the Fazio as well (also at Carlton Woods). I also play Wildcat, which is located south of Houston. But I’ve not joined anywhere yet. I’m still looking.”

Young, whose legendary touchdown run on fourth down in the Rose Bowl in 2006 was the decisive moment as the Longhorns defeated a talented USC team to win the national championship said he was awed by the LPGA players who played at the Chevron in Houston, Texas, on Saturday.

Young said, “Since moving here, I have seen a sand-shot go straight into the hole and I heard that there was a hole in one.” “For my first year in Houston I would say that is pretty good. It’s great to have weather like this.

Young played football sporadically as a child, but became more involved in the sport during his professional career. Young was signed by the Buffalo Bills as well as the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also played for the Tennessee Titans.

He said, “I began playing when I was in my fifth or six year of professional football. Then three years ago, during the pandemic, I picked it up again.” “I can’t get enough. You know, I am in my 80s. “Any time I am in my 80s, it’s a good day.
