Brian Harman was welcomed as a hero when he returned to McKinnon-St. Simons Airport in Georgia, on Friday.

The Champion Golfer Of The Year was surprised by more than 50 fans and friends upon his arrival. They included fellow major winner Davis Love III and PGA Tour professional and fellow Georgia alum Harris English. Justin Parsons’ swing coach also joined the group.

It’s really cool. Harman told PGA Tour.com that it warms his heart to see everyone here. My wife played it pretty well. I thought we’d just go home without seeing anyone, so I am glad everyone came. It’s very touching.”

Harman, who collected his first major title on Sunday, won for the first in over six years. He stepped out of the plane with his youngest child in his left hand and the Claret Jug – the famed trophy for which the British Open winner is granted custody for a year – in his right.

Harman stayed around, posed for photos, signed autographs, and drank Coors Light out of the Claret Jug.

Harman grinned and said, “There’s booze there, sorry,” in a video that the PGA Tour posted on social media.

The trophy was touched by a group of young fans.

Harman returned to the U.S. on Monday morning after celebrating the previous night at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Hoylake (England), not far from the Royal Liverpool Golf Club where he had won the British Open. Harman met with his wife, three children, and her family in Syracuse, New York, who had watched the victory live from their home.

He said, “The past three or four days were really nice.” “We were secluded by the lake. It’s great to see familiar faces again and celebrate with them.

Harman has lived on St. Simons Island for the majority of his career. It is part of a barrier island chain nicknamed Golden Isles. Harman’s career is about to begin in this beautiful corner of southern Georgia, halfway between Savannah and Jacksonville.
