NEW LONDON (Minn.) – This was a win unlike any other.
New London-Spicer Wildcats, who were playing in the Minnesota State High School Class 3A Championship Football Game at U.S. Bank Stadium, needed a miracle and they got one. It was named the Minnesota Miracle II, a Hail Mary followed by a lateral to score a game-winning goal.
CBS announcer Jim Nantz gave an inspiring speech to the team at their training camp on Friday morning. Nantz was visiting the site of Tepetonka a private destination golf club that is being built near him, where he is the founding member and design consultant for the short course. Nantz and CBS NFL partner Tony Romo recorded a message of encouragement for the team ahead of the semi-finals of the state football playoffs. Nantz and Romo, who had called the NFL game between Kansas City and Cincinnati in the NFL finals, sent a video congratulating the team from the airport.
“We felt connected to you.” Nantz told the team on Friday that they were pulling for him as they listened to him on one knee. “We’ve got our own team, just like you.” Nantz stated that it will take 23 weeks to get to Las Vegas, and to call the Super Bowl. You want to win again. You can’t take back what you achieved last year, so go and win it again. Double down would be a great idea.
“Being a part of a group is the best thing in the entire world.” It’s a special feeling to have a brotherhood with ONE common goal. You’ll have it for the rest your life. You guys will be united forever,” said he before adding “I am inspired by you all.”
