College golf has never seen a round below 60.
Nick Dunlap missed the lead by a single birdie putt.
Dunlap, a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, was playing his 36th hole in the Hamptons Intercollegiate, at Maidstone Golf Club, East Hampton, New York.
He was already at 69, and 12 under on his second 18, when he had to make a birdie putt from about eight feet. If it had dropped, he’d have notched a score of 59. He would be the first college golfer to achieve this prestigious milestone.
If we haven’t yet spoiled the video, it was never meant to be.

Dunlap started with par-eagle and birdie, then turned in 5-under-par 30. He birdied the 10th hole, parred the eleventh and then made six consecutive birdies. He managed to get 10 birdies, but the last one didn’t fall.
Dunlap, however, signed for a 60 and became the 18th golfer to do so in the men’s college game.
