Watch: Serena Williams and Brian Cox pay homage to ‘Caddyshack” in the Michelob Ultra Super Bowl ad

Feb, 2023

The Super Bowl will feature Travis and Jason Kelce, brothers from the Kansas City Chiefs. Jason Kelce is the Philadelphia Eagles’ candidate for the second championship ring. However, the commercials will showcase a 23-time Grand Slam champion who has completed a three-peat.

Michelob Ultra is back in the big game as a part Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob Ultra. The brand cast Serena Williams as the star of its spot for the third year in a row. In “New Members Day,” Williams faces Emmy-winning actor Brian Cox at the golf course, in a nod towards 1980’s classic “Caddyshack”. The digital reveal of the spot is exclusive to USA TODAY’s Ad Meter.

Williams, 41, tells USA TODAY that he would like to play more golf “truly for the photo opportunities.” “I had a decent drive because I am a tennis player.”

Yes, the former world No. In the present tense, 1 still uses “tennis-player”. Williams was forced to retire following the 2022 U.S. Open. As it turns out, golf isn’t something she’s unfamiliar with thanks to King Richard.

Williams recalls that Williams’ father used to have Williams and his sister Venus play golf as children. “We used to go on the driving range, but (but) I never got the golf bug until after the commercial.”

In addition to Cox, the cast features a slew of athletes, including NBA star Jimmy Butler, World Cup champion Alex Morgan, WNBA champion Nneka Ogwumike and quarterback-turned-commentator Tony Romo. The campaign includes partnerships with apparel company Devereux Golf and e-commerce platform Instacart as well as the new Netflix series, “Full Swing.”

Williams remarks on Michelob Ultra’s commitment to gender equality, which features both male and female athletes in its advertising campaigns. It’s not only a great product; it’s also great to be with a company who walks the talk and talks the walk.

Williams is a commercial star and loves “Succession”, but the patriarch Roy didn’t reveal any season 4 spoilers. He kept those storylines a secret while speaking with USA TODAY via Zoom in Brooklyn, New York.

Cox, 76 says that the HBO series is a “unique show” but also a “zeitgeist for the time. He was the role of Logan Roy, an actor who played the head of a global entertainment and media conglomerate. His struggles with health and his family’s ambitions for control of the company led to him being awarded a Golden Globe. People love to hate. People love characters they don’t like.

This ad is Cox’s first Super Bowl commercial. He didn’t channel Logan Roy, but instead Ted Knight, “Caddyshack” star.

Cox states, “I have always been a big admirer Ted Knight, really from the ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show.'” “He is amazing in (‘Caddyshack”) He’s the energy that makes the movie work.”

Cox was born in Scotland near St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. Cox is not a professional golfer or a fan of American football. He has learned to appreciate the importance of the NFL and its championship match in the U.S. through his children.

Cox says that all of them are going to Arizona as part of their Super Bowl plans. “That’s why my boys get so excited, they get to see the Super Bowl.

“Suddenly their father has a purpose!”
