Run away, close your eyes and hide the children.
Even professionals can miss gimme putsts.
The NV5 Invitational, a Korn Ferry Tour race in Illinois this week, is a great example. Tom Whitney only had a few inches to make a putt. He did what every pro would do, he walked to the hole, turned around, and dropped his putter. He swiped at the ball just a few inches away from the cup.
It was a flop. The ball was never in. The ball missed, and then bounced about three feet from the goal. Whitney was stunned and Barstool Sports TV broadcasters were in disbelief.
Think we just saw the shortest miss in golf history, and the guys in the booth can’t believe it @NV5Invite @KornFerryTour https://t.co/QwubmF3m2d | #BarstoolNV5 pic.twitter.com/gVrQANltUs

Whitney isn’t alone in missing a short putt. Padraig Harrington is a major champion who plays in the Senior British Open. He missed a putt which touched the edge of the cup but did not fall.
Somehow the ball hasn’t dropped….#SeniorOpen pic.twitter.com/fEUU0M3rJP

Next time you play golf with friends, remember that there are no gimmies.
