Watch: This PGA Tour pro shot his third shot at a par-5 to reach the flag. He scored an 8

Sometimes, golf is a game of chance.

There’s a lot of skill involved. The best golfers on the planet amaze their fans with their ability to hit the ball from all angles, make curve shots, and bomb drives. Lucky bounces can make a bad shot great, or in some cases really, really bad.

Enter S.H. Kim was playing his third shot on the PGA West Stadium Course in the second round at The American Express in La Quinta. Kim had 83 yards to go on the par-5 16th hole. His wedge shot was dialed in.

However, it is a little too much.

The ball ran backwards after he hit the flag. The ball hung on the fairway just short of the green, before it tumbled down the hill to the left. The ball would have been in the bunker but it ended up under the rake. Kim was relieved to find that his fourth, fifth, and sixth shots were all in the bunker. He was able with his seventh to put it on the putting surface, and drained it for the triple-bogey 8.

Kim rebounded strongly and made birdie at the 17th green island. Talk about a tale with two holes.
