Augusta National announced Tuesday that it will not stand in the way LIV golfers participating in the 2023 Masters. All players who meet the qualification criteria will receive invitations.
Since Scottie Scheffler wore the Green Jacket in April, LIV Golf has been discussing this topic. The private club makes its own rules and holds the tournament in Augusta, Georgia each April. Would it update its qualification criteria so that LIV golfers can’t compete in the first major of the season? The answer is currently no. However, the green jackets have left the possibility open for future changes.
LIV Golf signed several former Masters champions. There are also many major champions who won their titles within the last five year and are therefore eligible.
Golfweek asked more then a dozen golfers, including former champions Jordan Spieth (2015), and Trevor Immelman (2008) to consider whether LIV golfers should have the right to participate in the Masters. These are their responses.
