Webb Simpson and Paul Tesori have split after 12 years of marriage, which also included a U.S. Open title.

Simpson made the announcement via social media Monday. Tesori was one of the most hard-working caddies of the PGA Tour and would take over from Cameron Young, 25, who is a budding star.

Simpson tweeted, “This was an extremely difficult decision for us both, but one we have thoroughly considered after many hours in prayer and seeking counsel from mentors and having countless discussions together.”

Simpson and Tesori won the 2012 U.S. Open at The Olympic Club, San Francisco. They also won the 2018 Players Championship near Tesori’s childhood home in Jacksonville, Florida.

Simpson wrote, “I am glad for the great chance Paul has in going to Work with my fellow (Wake Forest Demon Deacon) Demon Deacon”

Tesori was a solid player who earned his PGA Tour card. He then switched to caddying after working for Sean O’Hair and Vijay Singh.

Simpson, 37, has struggled with injuries since 2020, which was the year of his last win at the RBC Heritage. Simpson surged into contention at the Valspar Championship last week to earn a late time in the second-to–last pairing. He shot 2-over-73 on Sunday to finish T-7. He thanked his faith for getting him through this latest valley in a long career that has seen many high points.

Paul Tesori, left, with former player Webb Simpson, has been on the bags for wins with Vijay Singh and Sean O’Hair, too.

“Just trust that God is working. Simpson stated that even through the difficulties, and the hardships, there is still a purpose to it which helps me get up in the morning.” Simpson spoke after Saturday’s third round at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course, Palm Harbor, Florida. “Because I’m not result-oriented or results-based, there’s plenty of evidence that I would be down and hopeless if it was. The Lord has asked me to work for His glory, and I feel that I have. It’s been hard and frustrating, and I felt like I wanted to snap every club in my bag at times, but I have found a lot peace during the last year and half.

Simpson didn’t reveal who would take over as Tesori’s caddie.
