What can male amateurs gain from watching the LPGA tour? PGA Tour Players weigh in on Grant Thornton Invitational

NAPLES, Fla. — The Grant Thornton Invitational this week at Tiburon Golf Club has brought in new fans. Officials of the tournament say that ticket and concession sales have increased by more than twice since the QBE Shootout format was changed to a mixed team event this year.

The 16-team tournament and the concert at the Tiburon Driving Range on Saturday sold out.

It was of course always hoped that combining the PGA Tour with the LPGA would attract more interest.

It was an eye-opening event for many PGA Tour golfers, as it was their first time playing against an elite LPGA competitor.

Those who closely follow women’s golf have said for years that male amateurs can learn more by watching the LPGA Tour than the PGA Tour, because it is a more relatable sport.
