The USGA and R&A announced a proposal to roll back golf balls on Wednesday. This has sparked a lot of discussion in the golfing community.
College golf coaches have also spoken out about the changes.
In 2028, a robot will test a ball’s conformity and playability by swinging a titanium club with 125 mph at an 11-degree angle and spinning it 2,200 times per minute. The ball cannot exceed the Overall Distance Standard of 317 yards combined with carry distance and rolling (with a tolerance of three yards).
All levels of golf will be affected by the change, including top amateurs and college golfers.
Golfweek interviewed numerous college coaches during an annual convention of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the Women Golf Coaches Association in order to gain some insight on the golf ball rolling back. Here are some of their comments.
