Everybody can recall that friend who drives a little bit farther than their friends.
Maybe the subject of long drive was brought up by a former baseball player, an athlete of another kind, or a man with great genetics. World Long Drive has returned, but how can a man win?
Colton Casto (27 years old) from Snohomish in Washington won last weekend at Memphis, Tennessee. He had a winning ball that measured 380 yards. This victory has been a long-time coming.
Casto has worked with Bobby Peterson, his coach at One Stop Power Shop in Newton Grove, North Carolina since 2018. Peterson is known for producing many world champions such as Kyle Berkshire, but Casto has had a long journey.
Peterson is the owner of OSPS, a training facility where his athletes can hit on driving ranges, simulators, and lighted outdoor driving ranges. The training consists of several hitting sessions that result in hundreds of balls being hit. Casto has been at OSPS for eight weeks since the start of the year.
Casto joined Peterson in 2018 with a swing speed of 140 mph. His ball speed peaked at 210mph. Top ten long driver swing speeds now range from 155 to 169 mph, with ball speeds in the range of 212-230mph.
“Colton has worked hard with me. Peterson said that after the Denver competition, Colton decided to return to OSPS to work on a few things to correct a 14 to 15-inch low point in his swing. Peterson said, “This was making him close his face too quickly and flip the ball. We worked on it all week, hitting 200 to 400 balls per day.
Casto won in Memphis with a Callaway Paradym long drive head set at 2.5 degrees, and a Kinetixx D10 Hypersonic 48″ shaft.
“I could not even speak after the victory. Casto said, “It has been a long road to reach this point.”
Peterson continued: “He came to Memphis, did the work and everything came together. I could not be more proud of him and all of the OSPS members. Last week we had ten in the field, and seven of them made it to the top 16. This is our second win in a week. We look forward to the next tournament.”
