DORAL, Fla. – Who’s up for some match play?
This week the LIV Golf Championship returns to Trump National Doral. The 12 teams of the league will compete for a purse of $50 million, with a $14 million prize going to the winning team. Just a week ago Talor Gooch won the $18,000,000 individual championship. Dustin Johnson and 4Aces GC will defend their title this week at Trump National Doral. This year, Peter Uihlein is replacing Talor Gooch as the individual champion.
This format is unique in golf. It combines both stroke play and match play. The quarterfinals on Friday and the semifinals on Saturday will feature three matches per round: two singles, and a foursomes. No ties. The team with the most points advances. All 12 teams will be competing in stroke play on Sunday. In regular season, the lowest score is removed from the total team score. Only the top four teams are eligible to win the top prize. Teams that lose on Saturday compete for the 5-8 places, while Friday’s losers will be competing for the 9-12 places.
