You may have an old putter in your closet that you no longer love. You loved the courtship and honeymoon phase, but putts started to stop dropping and the honeymoon ended. Now you’re looking at other putters on the pro-shop shelves.
You’re not alone. Many professional golfers have the same experience. Even household names such as Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy can doubt the ability of an older putter to do the job or switch between putters hoping to break out of a slump.
It’s not just putters that have this problem. Professionals are often confused when the ball does not react as they expect after hitting shots with woods or irons. This can cause them to lose their confidence and mess up their minds.
It’s a difficult question to answer: how can you know when to improve your golf technique, or whether it’s time to switch putters (or any other clubs in your bag)?
