LAS VEGAS – With all eyes on Lexi Thompson, who made her PGA Tour debut during the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, her golf bag became a talking point for those watching the group’s opening round.

Thompson’s Cobra bag featured colorful messages from names such as Kerrigan Patrick and Keon. After playing more than 16 holes on Thursday, she noted that the bag had been given to Shriners Children’s Hospital patients to decorate.

“I am very excited. This week I received this brand new white Cobra bag. “It’s blank but I had the Shriners children design it and write a few words on it. It makes it even more special, because this is what week is about,” said she. It’s amazing that Shriners gives these kids the chance to live a healthy lifestyle and follow their dreams. “I’m carrying them around all week, and their support is invaluable.”

Thompson received a lot of support from her fans in her first round. She responded with an impressive performance that saw her finish at 1 over par after 16 holes, before the darkness set in. She is vying to be the first woman to make the cut in a PGA Tour tournament since 1945. Michelle Wie was close to making the cut at the Sony Open in 2004, but she missed it by one stroke as a high school freshman.

Thompson said that this is the ideal place to debut on the Tour, regardless of whether she makes it or not.

It’s been great this week. “Everyone has been so welcoming and it’s a great honor to be able tee off here,” said she. There’s more than golf to this sport. “Shriners does incredible things for these children, so I am happy to be here and support them in any way that I can.”
