Sampson Zheng, one of four amateurs who teed it up in the 2023 LIV Golf Promotions tournament last week, had the most impressive resume of all.
He won the U.S. He won the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills. Zheng, a senior at Cal University, is also on the PGA Tour University Rankings for 2024. This gives the top college seniors a shot at PGA Tour Membership as well as eligibility to start the Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour Americas.
Last week, Zheng travelled to Abu Dhabi where he played in the LIV Golf Promotions tournament. He was exempted from the second round, and was the only amateur among 20 players to reach the 36-hole finale. He was T-11 and one shot short of earning the Asian Tour.
