In a prestigious award held in Abu Dhabi, Middle Eastern City, Scotland was named the best golf destination.
The World Golf Awards is an annual event that celebrates excellence in tourism. It is now in its ninth year.
Scotland won the award for best golf destination in the world. It was also named Europe’s best place to play golf.
This is the first time that the home of golf has won both these awards at the sport’s most prestigious prize-giving ceremony.
Scotland has over 550 golf courses. The 150th Open was held at St. Andrews, Fife, in July.
The country hosted The Genesis Scottish Open and The Senior Open Presented By Rolex.
VisitScotland’s chief executives stated in a statement that the awards were a fitting way to end an extra special year of golf in Scotland. They also offer fantastic recognition to all those who have worked so hard to build and improve our reputation as the “Home of Golf”.
“I would like to express my congratulations to all of you, along with the suppliers and other tourism and events industry professionals.
“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit us to enjoy our fantastic golf courses, relax in our accommodations, and take in the local produce, and see nearby attractions.”
Dermot Synnott is the director of global partnerships at the World Golf Awards. He added that “Scotish golf tourism has thriving and Scotland is a top-of-the-line destination for many golfers worldwide.
It offers many links and parkland options in all regions. This makes it a great place for the traveler golfer.
