Lilia Vu is poised to be the first American since Stacy Lewis to win the Rolex LPGA Award for Player of the Year in 2014. Prior to Lewis’s first win in 2012, the last American to hold the title was Beth Daniel in 1994.
Vu has a 21 point advantage over Celine Boutier with 154 total points as the LPGA season approaches its end. Lydia Ko, who won the POY Award last year with 180 points, is now in contention for this year’s award. A POY winner also receives an LPGA Hall of Fame Point.
Only top-10 finishes in the LPGA are eligible for Player of the year points. A win at a non major is worth 30 points, while a second place finish is worth 12 points.
The LPGA has seven more events to go, with the Volunteers of America event in Texas this week marking the last domestic LPGA event until mid-November.
