The best amateur in the world has finished for the remainder of the summer.
Michael Thorbjornsen, a Stanford senior, announced on Wednesday that he would be withdrawing from the U.S. A stress fracture in Thorbjornsen’s back has forced him to withdraw from the U.S. In an Instagram posting, Thorbjornsen said that his medical team had advised him to take a break from golf so the fracture could heal.
Thorbjornsen wrote in the post that he expects to be back at full health by time for his senior year.
Thorbjornsen was recently ranked No. The PGA Tour U preseason rankings for Class 2024 include Thorbjornsen, who won the Pac-12 Championship in his junior years and was named a Golfweek All-American first team. He qualified for the U.S. Open on three occasions, including last summer at Los Angeles Country Club.
The U.S. Thorbjornsen, an amateur, was one of the four medalists.
