It should come as no surprise that Yana Wilson, Anna Davis and other junior golfers are at the top of leaderboard.
Wilson is the U.S. She won medalist honors at Eisenhower Golf Club’s Blue Course, Colorado Springs this year, after a second round 4-under 68. She finished at 6-under-138, just one shot ahead Davis. Davis, the winner of 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the highest-ranked golfer in the field, shot a second round 1-under 71.
The duo is now the top seeds for the match play which starts at 10 am. The Round of 64 begins at ET on Wednesday.
Both players have had many battles in recent tournaments. Wilson, for example, nailed a shot to win a playoff against Davis at the Annika Invitational in 2022 by holing an eagle.
Wilson, who has committed to Oregon, and Davis, a Auburn committee, are the two top prospects for the Class of 2024. Kiara Romero is an incoming Oregon freshman who placed third in 36-hole stroke play.
Wilson will attempt to become the sixth medalist since 2002 to lift the Glenna Collett-Vare Trophy. She has the chance to become only the fourth U.S. Junior Girls’ champion to win it again since Eunjeong Seong won in 2015-16.
The match play cut was 7 over and 64 players were within the line. This is the first time since 2007 that no playoffs were needed to determine the final positions at Tacoma Golf and Country Club, Lakewood, Washington.
A fourth ace was also recorded on Tuesday. Sophie Stevens hit a 9 iron from 132 yard on the 7th hole.
Four aces surpassed 2004 U.S. Girls’ Juniors for most aces in a single tournament. The 1989 U.S. Open, held at Oak Hill Country Club near Rochester, New York, also matched the USGA record for a single tournament.
