Zach Johnson, the captain of the United States Ryder Cup team, was faced with a difficult decision: whether to send an unmotivated Justin Thomas to Italy to compete in next month’s Ryder Cup.
Thomas was among the six captain’s choices that Johnson made to fill out his 12-player team for Marco Simone Golf and Country Club from Sept. 29 – Oct. 1.
Johnson said during the press conference following his selection that “His passion is very apparent” for the Ryder Cup. “In my opinion, he was made for this. You don’t just leave JT home.”

Thomas said, “I feel very comfortable playing with friends that I’ve known for a long time. I also feel I can bring out the best in them.”
Johnson added: “In my opinion, Thomas is one of the most talented players in the PGA Tour.” Thomas has been without a doubt the heart and soul for Team USA in Ryder Cups. “Our emotional leader,” I’d say. I don’t think Thomas would disagree with me. He leads by example.”
