Zach Johnson, the captain of Team USA at the Ryder Cup, will be in Rome starting on September 29. He has been preparing for both events this week, including two Zoom calls he made when he first woke up on Tuesday.
He said that he takes both his jobs seriously. This includes laying the gauntlet down to the two Ryder Cup golfers he has on the field this weekend, Max Homa, and Justin Thomas.
“Max and J.T. I’m not going to speak for them, but they might not be able to play if they do poorly. Johnson said at a press conference before the tournament, “That’s it. I’m kidding.”
Stewart Cink, a former champion of the Fortinet Championship and one of Johnson’s Vice Captains for the Ryder Cup, said: “There was some hesitation there. Did you see it?”
Johnson said that he was unsure if he would play this weekend.
Johnson added, “At the time, I’m fortunate to have people like Stewart around me and other colleagues, who are our leadership captains, if you like. We’ve accomplished a great deal of work so far.”
He was certain that Homa, and Thomas in particular, would benefit from some tournament reps.
I don’t believe it is ever bad to compete. “That’s what we were designed to do. That’s how we are wired,” said he. “Ideally, they gain some momentum. In this game, momentum can be deadly and a good thing.
He continued: “I won’t give their scorecard much merit in terms of what we are trying to achieve two weeks from now.”
Cink said, “It’s inevitable that what Max and J.T. Cink stated, “I think that whatever Max and J.T. “I hope both of them win,” Cink said. “I hope they both win.” It would boost their self-confidence.
“And We Tie for Third,” Johnson said.
Confidence comes from knowing that your best golf is yet to come.
Cink stated, “We hope they feel confident after this week. That would be great.”
